Shawn Mendes Heads Top 40 Radio with “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back”
Shawn Mendes‘ “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” hit number one on the Top 40 Radio charts. It follows his previous radio successes “Mercy” and “Treat You Better,” which are all on 2016’s Illuminate.
“There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” was inspired by Timbaland and Justin Timberlake’s early works. The music video for the song was released on June 20, 2017. The clip is filmed in Paris, Amsterdam, and the United Kingdom.
The song registered over 142 million video and audio streams since April 20, 2017. In sales, it has moved nearly 625,000 units and radio spins are approaching 250,000. It is produced by Teddy Geiger and Andrew Maury.
The music will be featured on the Illuminate World Tour, as the song was released ahead of his Illuminate album. Mendes’ manager Andrew Gertler says the decision to include it is “indicative of how music is moving now where you have the freedom to do that with streaming and most mediums online.”
Mendes is scheduled to perform “There’s Nothing Holdin’ Me Back” at the 2017 MTV Video Music Awards on Aug. 27, 2017.
