Lauryn Hill Dedicates New Single “Guarding The Gates” to Ferguson

Lauryn Hill recently released her first solo single in over five years. “Guarding The Gates,” which is featured Queen & Slim, follows 2014’s “Black Rage.”
Queen & Slim follows the lives of Queen (Jodie Turner-Smith) and Slim (Get Out’s Daniel Kaluuya) after a standard traffic stop goes horribly wrong. The duo are harassed by a police officer, and when the situation escalates, Slim pulls the officer’s gun and shoots him.
Queen & Slim‘s official release date is November 27, 2019.
Hill dedicated “Guarding The Gates” to Michael Brown and the people of Ferguson, Missouri. Brown was shot and killed by a police officer in 2014.
Hill is currently on tour promoting the 20th anniversary of The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill. If “Guarding The Gates” develops into a solo project, it will be Hill’s first in 20 years.
