Halsey Defends Taylor Swift Amid Music Block
According to Taylor Swift, she is being denied the right to play any of her music from her last six albums. Big Machine record label executives Scooter Braun and Scott Borchetta made this decision.
Swift announced via Twitter with an open letter to her fans. She writes, “It’s been announced recently that the American Music Awards will be honoring me with the Artist of the Decade Award at this year’s ceremony. I’ve been planning to perform a medley of my hits throughout the decade on the show.”
She continues, “Scott Borchetta and Scooter Braun have now said that I’m not allowed to perform my old songs on television because they claim that would be re-recording my music because I’m allowed to next year.”
The rest of her letter follows:
Platinum-selling recording artist Halsey defended Swift on Twitter, saying, “You shouldn’t have to live in fear of protecting yourself from the people who are supposed to be on your side. And most young, wide-eyed artists don’t have the foresight to think they will need to. And, it’s sad they would ever need to … That’s all I’m gonna say on that for now.”
Unsurprisingly, more and more artists are coming to the aid of Swift. Her fans are annoyed, as well. However, Big Machine denies Swift’s accusation.
In a statement, they claim, “we were shocked to see [Swift’s Twitter] statements yesterday based on false information. At no point did we say Taylor could not perform on the AMAs or block her Netflix special. In fact, we do not have the right to keep her from performing live anywhere.”
This story is bound to develop as time progresses.
