Coldplay Finished Touring Until It Becomes More Sustainable

Coldplay

Coldplay recently decided to quit touring based on issues of sustainability. After releasing their eighth studio album, Everyday Life, fans expected Chris Martin and company to hit the road, but that isn’t going to happen.

Martin stated, “We’re not touring this album. We’re taking time over the next year or two, to work out how our tour can not only be sustainable [but] how can it be actively beneficial.”

The new material is not going to be performed live any time soon. Issues of sustainability are starting to become more mainstream, as climate change reaches the forefront of public concern.

Martin continues, “All of us have to work out the best way of doing our job … Our dream is to have a show with no single-use plastic [and] to have it be largely solar-powered.”

Unfortunately, touring still has a negative environmental impact. Coldplay is hoping to change that. A band as big as Coldplay doesn’t need to be concerned with the additional income generate via touring, but smaller, lesser-known bands must tour. If Coldplay can help to make those tours more sustainable, it would be a massive step in a positive direction.

Listen to Coldplay’s newest single, “Daddy,” as it will not be performed live for quite some time.
