4 EDM Songs to Help You Focus While Studying or Working

Studying

Background music affects our brains in various ways, sometimes positively and other times negatively depending on the tasks we are attempting to accomplish. According to recent studies, EDM might be one of the best genres to listen to while studying or working.

Lyrics negatively impact our ability to focus on specific tasks. The more voices we hear while working, the harder it is for us to concentrate. Fortunately, the opposite is true for songs without lyrical content. Instrumental music actually increases concentration while studying or working.

Music also makes completing repetitive tasks more pleasurable. When a task doesn’t involve much creative thinking, we tend to get bored. Listening to background music while repeating the same task over and over can help to reduce that boredom, making us more productive.

The more familiar we are with the music we are listening to, the better it is for our concentration. When listening to unfamiliar music, we are more likely to break concentration because we heard something new and unique.

What kind of music should you listen to in order to concentrate better? EDM fits the mold almost perfectly. Below are four recommendations for EDM songs that will help you focus while studying or working.

4. Marshmello – “Alone”

With over 1.5 billion YouTube views, Marshmello’s “Alone” is one of the most popular songs of all time. Remember, the more familiar we are with the song, the better it is for concentration. “Alone” does feature semi-repetitive lyrics, which could break our concentration, but the upbeat tempo is great for a mood boost! Make sure to listen to this song on repeat, as it is only three minutes long.

3. Mord Fustang – “Lick The Rainbow”

“Lick The Rainbow” is both upbeat and repetitive. It is over seven minutes, making it ideal for studying and working. Mord Fustang picks up the intensity over time, but does so subtly, as to not break your concentration. This is a great song for a sunny day at home or the office, especially during the summer!

2. Deadmau5 – “Strobe”

Deadmau5’s “Strobe” is 10 minutes of lyric-free EDM. It starts off slow, making it perfect for an early-morning study or work session, but eventually picks up toward the middle and end of the song. “Strobe” is perfect for a rainy or wintery day trapped in the house or office. With almost 50 million YouTube views, it is a rather familiar melody, as well.

1. Klutch – “Fur Elise (Remix)”

Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Fur Elise” is one of the most popular songs in the world for concentration purposes. It is scientifically proven to help people focus while studying or working, and Klutch’s EDM remix does the same. It is slightly more upbeat, which could also increase your mood. At under three minutes long, it will need to be put on repeat!
